Internships

Conditions of internship completion

(completion with a grade by October 15, 2017):

  1. Enrolment in the INTERNSHIP course for the 6th semester.
  2. The student’s REPORT (2-4 A-4 sheets) of the conduct of their internship, including a detailed description of tasks, observations, remarks, and conclusions from the internship; the company does not attest to the report, as it is only for the student’s and the Faculty’s information.
  3. ASSESSMENT FORM and a positive assessment from the company’s internship supervisor (ASSESSMENT FORM to be downloaded from the internship documents generator) attesting to the student’s commitment and diligence during their internship AND THE NUMBER OF THE INTERNSHIP’S HOURS (the student keeps the original document and submits a copy to the Faculty’s internship supervisor).
  4. An interview on the subject of the internship conducted by the Faculty’s internship supervisor with the student at the time of their submitting the REPORT and ASSESSMENT FORM.
  5. If the internship is not acknowledged as completed (and thus does not earn a credit), the student is obliged to redo it to have it acknowledged as completed.
  6. The acknowledgement of the internship as completed (and the obtainment of a relevant credit) follows the general principles applicable to any other course.
  7. It is advisable that the student keeps an extra copy of the ASSESSMENT FORM, which will be necessary while entering data into the diploma supplement.

Internship conduct procedure

  • step 1: the student enrols for the INTERNSHIP course in the 6th semester (6 ECTS).
  • step 2: the student, on their own, contacts the company of their choice to obtain its permission to conduct the internship in accordance to the attached framework programme (W10 website) and establish the internship starting date.
  • step 3: the student contacts the Faculty’s relevant internship supervisor about their intention to conduct their internship at the company they have chosen and presents necessary information on the employer, i.e. company name, address, information on the company’s line of business, the scope of internship, contact data, and - optionally - the company’s website address.
  • step 4: after obtaining a permission from the company and the Faculty’s internship supervisor’s permission for the student to conduct their internship with a given employer, the student uses the online internship documents generator to provide all formal data indispensable for drawing up an agreement between the company and the University (exact name and address of the company, first name and surname of the person authorised to represent the company and sign the agreement of the student’s internship, as well as the agreed date and time of the internship). The Faculty’s internship supervisor examines and prints out the agreement in two copies - each for either party, which are then signed by the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs. The agreement is delivered to the company by the student. Before it happens, the student provides the Faculty’s internship supervisor with their declaration stating that they have taken out a casualty insurance valid throughout the internship.
  • step 5: after the agreement is signed by the company, one copy thereof remains at the company while the other one is delivered by the student to their Faculty’s internship advisor.
  • step 6: the student’s conduct of their internship.
  • step 7: acknowledgement of the internship as completed.

Rules for the conduct of an internship

Rules for the conduct of an internship

  1. Students’ internships are conducted pursuant to the Internal Directive 24/2006 of the Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
  2. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering organises one type of internship under its three-cycle study system:
  • engineer’s internship - for students in the 3rd year of their 1st cycle programme (engineer’s degree programme)
  1. The internship’s duration is a minimum of 160 hours (4 weeks); the internship must be conducted during the holiday break after the 6th semester.
  2. The internship is unpaid. Any additional costs resulting from the organisation of internship (e.g. the cost of specialist medical examination required by the employer) are incurred by either the student or the employer, depending on specific arrangements between them.
  3. During the student’s internship, they must have a valid casualty insurance (insurance costs are incurred by the student).
  4. The fulfilment of student internship programme comes directly under the authority of the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs. Any formalities related to to the preparation, conduct, and the acknowledgement of an internship as completed are handled by the Faculty’s internship supervisors.
  5. The Faculty’s currently appointed internship supervisors for specific degree programmes are as follows:

    • Control Engineering and Robotics, as well as Mechatronics
      Andrzej ROSZKOWSKI, PhD, Eng - building B-4, room 2.15, phone: 71 320 27 81
    • Mechanical Engineering
      Paweł MAŚLAK, PhD, Eng - building B-5, room 404 phone: 71 320 23 88
    • Transport

  6. At companies where an internship is being conducted, the student comes under the authority of the company’s internship supervisor, who - upon completion of the internship - issues an opinion on the student using the  Assessment form attached to the internship documents generator.
  7. Internships are organised individually - the student makes contact with the company they choose on their own (see item 10), the parties agree on the starting date and course of the internship (condition: fulfilment of the framework programme of the internship appendix no. 1).
  8. The student seeks, on their own, a company where they will conduct their internship. To facilitate students’ search for places where they could conduct their internships, the Faculty publishes on its website a list of companies offering placements for students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Internship offers are also published on the website of the Career Office of Wrocław University of Science and Technology (providing up-to-date adverts specifying companies’ needs in terms of interns).
  9. Due to organisational costs and other factors, an internship should be organised in the student’s place of residence. The Faculty’s internship advisor may grant their permission for an internship to be organised outside the student’s place of residence if it doesn’t interfere with the fulfilment of the internship programme and as long as the student or the company undertake to incur the resulting costs (accommodation and travelling).
  10. If, over the course of the student’s degree programme, the student expresses an intention of conducting another internship (one which will not interfere with the fulfilment of their degree programme) in line with their degree programme, the Faculty will grant its permission and conduct the procedure of internship preparation as though it was the student’s compulsory internship for an engineer’s degree candidate.
